We artists are told that we shouldn’t paint it all.
That is difficult since it is all so yummy.
Look at the wild flowers, how they bounce in the breeze.
Look at the wisdom in an ancient face.
Look at the intrigue and the mystery found in the night.
I do want to paint it all because painting helps preserve the moment.

I love painting Colorado both day and night. Living in the mountains above Boulder I might paint wildflowers in the morning and Pearl Street in the afternoon. I might visit the country to paint pigs, chickens, or butterfly wings. I love capturing the spirit of Colorado.

I paint both in pastel and watercolor. Pastel is pure pigment, no water, and no turpentine, just pigment on paper. The paints are luminous and only color. They may be used like pencils for realism, tossed on the paper for abstraction, or layered for shimmering light. Watercolor is illusive, a challenge to the painter. It has its own muse. The artist shouldn’t tame it just allow it to create. Recently I have been exploring oils.
